Props to Axl at Metal Sucks for finding this gem: high school yearbook photos of Dave Mustaine, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (pictured). Click through for more, including Eddie Van Halen, Axl Rose, Slash, Tommy Lee, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Jon Bon Jovi.
Suddenly I don’t feel so bad about my senior year, terrible, overly-gelled mane. And I’m pretty sure that I once stuffed Kirk Hammet into a locker and made him do my algebra homework.

Former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul has been keeping extremely busy with his new label, Big Vin Records, releasing the debut from Seventh Void (featuring Johnny Kelly from Type-O Negative) and getting to work on the sophomore album from his band HELLYEAH with members of Mudvayne and Nothingface. We caught up with Vin to discuss running his own label, breaking into the industry and Pantera’s legacy.
You’ve played in bands your whole life and been on a few major labels via Pantera and HELLYEAH. Why would you want to form your own label?
It’s something me and Dime always wanted to do. We had completed a very unique country/metal crossover record with David Allan Coe called Rebel Meets Rebel. When I shopped it with major labels, they all kinda had the same answer: “What do we do with this?” So I said, “I know what to do with it, put it out!” And I started my own label.
What led you to sign Seventh Void?
I love the music! I think that it’s a [mix of] fresh sounds with old school roots!

In a case that may have legal implications stateside, TechCrunch reports that file hosting service Rapidshare has been fined by the Regional Court in Hamburg, Germany. The ruling could cost the company up to $34 million.
The suit, brought by copyright protection company GEMA, rules that Rapidshare isn’t allowed to host any of 5,000 tracks by artists GEMA represents and must keep them from being uploaded again. The file hosting service already lost another similar case t GEMA in January of 2008, and last year, the company started giving user information to labels that were looking to sue file sharers. $35 million is the value of the subject matter as determined by the court, not the actual fine, although it could be that much. While music piracy can be costly to illegal downloaders if caught, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any – Rapidshare had nearly 3 million users in May.

Here’s a new promotional idea: Municipal Waste have started a Twitter page in anticipation of their upcoming album, Massive Aggressive, where they are giving a $500 cash prize to the winner of a summer-long trivia game.
The punny tie-in is with the album’s lead track, “Wrong Answer”, which the page is also using as a catch phrase to tweet back at people (really, that’s just rude!). Oh, and they aren’t asking MW or even metal related questions – just stuff like “Where was the first McDonald’s located?” and “On what late night talk show did Farah Fawcett make an notoriously oddball appearance in 1997?”. What do you think? Odd? Clever? Stupid? Definitely going to be mistaken for spam?
