A Perfect Circle Loves Using Twitter To Tease Fans

A Perfect Social

While most celebrities like to use Twitter to let the world know that they plan to go to Taco Bell and take a crap afterwards, Maynard James Keenan and co. appear to be using the social network site for bigger things.

Though an official statement has yet to be announced, A Perfect Circle’s Twitter activity as of late would imply that the band is returning after a six year hiatus. Messages teasing their return were posted on the band’s recently launched account, including the following:

“ It’s On. @mjkeenan @puscifer @billyhowerdel” at 6:52 pm on August 2.

“Go tell Aunt Rosie… The old grey goose is dead not. @billyhowerdel @joshfreese @sweethead @mattmcjunkins @dannylohner @paz @puscifer” at 3:41 pm August 3.

“@james_iha Where ya at?” at 9:07 pm on August 3.

But why shouldn’t the actual members get in on the fun as well? Guitarist Billy Howerdel posted on his own account that “The APC dust is shaking off!” at 12:43 pm on August 3, while drummer Josh Freese said via his Facebook account (acting outside the box, or circle I should say) that “I’m happy to report that A Perfect Circle is waking up from it’s 6 year slumber…and we’re going to be ‘doing stuff’ soon.”

Granted, Maynard already confirmed to Rolling Stone that a new A Perfect Circle album was in the works. But it’s still pretty cool to see the band using Twitter and other social networks to build the buzz. It also cool that it somewhat reveals who is still in the band as well. The tweets mention Howerdel, Freese and guitarist James Iha (ex-Smashing Pumpkins), and while the “@paz” would seem to link to bassist Paz Lenchantin (currently in the Entrance Band), it links to some other person named Paz. Furthermore, Matt McJunkins (bassist for Keenan’s Puscifer and Howerdel’s Ashes Divide) and Danny Lohner (ex-Nine Inch Nails and frequent A Perfect Circle collaborator) are also linked in the tweet. Does this mean one of the two has replaced Ms. Lenchantin on bass? And if so, what about Marilyn Manson’s Geordie White, who replaced Lenchantin? Damn you Twitter, tell us more! We will keep you informed when more is confirmed.
