If you pay attention to metal charts and/or satellite radio, you’ll notice that you’re hearing a lot of Suicide Silence on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal channel. That’s for a lot of reasons – first off, they’re one of the biggest bands in deathcore, even though they changed their sound pretty significantly for their latest album. DJ Jose Mangin, who programs the channel, has been a fan of the band for years. And oh yeah, he also sings on the album.

“Doris,” the first single from the album, has been #1 on Liquid Metal’s “Devil’s Dozen” countdown for three weeks running. Granted, it’s Mangin’s countdown, so he should be able to curate his channel how he wants. Six Feet Under’s Chris Barnes seemed to think otherwise, given the tweet he sent earlier today:

He followed that up with another tweet stating “I guess I just need to be a little more ‘creative’ on how I promote.” It seems to be a not-so-thinly-veiled reference at Mangin appearing on Suicide Silence’s album. Theprp picked up on it, with a headline asking if he’d just called out the band. He responded with “just an observation.” It seems a little sour grapes-like, so it makes sense that he downplay it.

At the end of the day, as long as Jose is programming Liquid Metal, he can play what he wants and champion bands that he likes. Regardless of what he and Liquid Metal think of Suicide Silence, it didn’t help them sell any more records. At the end of the day, it’s cool that SiriusXM is a place where metal can be heard 24/7, even if it might not all be to your taste. And Chris Barnes is a hell of a lot of fun to follow on Twitter. It’ll be interesting to see if a) Jose responds and b) how long “Doris” will continue to have the top spot on the countdown.
