High On Fire, Pig Destroyer Among Those Playing 3 Floyds Beer Festival

Posted by on April 18, 2013

3 Floyds might be the most metal brewing company around. They have created beers for bands like Pig Destroyer and Municipal Waste, and their year-round beers are pretty brutal in their own right, with names like Arctic Panzer Wolf IPA and Zombie Dust Pale Ale.Each year they release a limited batch of their Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout, which is only available on Dark Lord Day. This year’s Dark Lord Day is April 27th and takes place at the 3Floyds brewpub in Munster, Indiana. If you’re unfamiliar with this style or particular beer, let this description be your guide:

Dark Lord is a gargantuan Russian Style Imperial Stout, with a reverse cascading head that starts out billowing the color of burnt oil like the Dark Lord rising from the black primordial beginnings. Its resonant vinous aroma has been described as cherries, sweet malt, molasses, burnt currants, plums with a port wine alcohol undertow. Mochachino notes buried within. Motor oil consistency, hellishly smooth yet divinely burnt and vinous. The first sip coats your palate with a palatial charred fruit and chocolate blanket. Alcohol burn wiggles its way down your throat with a thick body.

What better way to enjoy this hellish ale than while listening to some awesome music? They’ve lined up some great bands to play this year’s Dark Lord Day, as follows:

High On Fire

Municipal Waste

Pig Destroyer

Sweet Cobra

Lair Of The Minotaur

Sounds like an awesome day, right? Of course it is. That’s why unfortunately tickets are already sold out for Dark Lord Day 2013. However, you might get lucky on the internet. A pair of tickets was put on eBay to raise money for the Irving Park YMCA and went for roughly about what 80 bottles of this beer would cost. Although they don’t distribute nationally, if you are in the Indiana or Ohio area, 3Floyds is worth checking out even on non-Dark Lord Days. If they can brew a beer for the likes of Municipal Waste and Pig Destroyer, who knows what they’ll come up with next!
