Best of 2015 from 36 Crazyfists, Secrets of the Sky, The Ocean

Mono-TheOcean-Transcendental-cover-620x620As 2015 starts to draw to a close, we’re continuing to bring you the year in music. It’s been a banner year for music, with lots of releases, and we’re letting some of the people that made that music count down the music that inspired them this year. In this installment, Sean McCullough from Secrets of the Sky, Snipe City co-author and 36 Crazyfists frontman Brock Lindow and The Ocean Collective’s  Paul Seidel spotlight their favorites of the year.

Sean McCullough, Secrets of the Sky

10) Pantheist, O Solitude
Dark and disgusting. Classic doom elements mixed with analog production creates an unsettling and spiritual experience.

9. Bell Witch, Four Phantoms
Devastating doom guaranteed to turn your mood sour, no matter where you are, or what you’re doing.

8) Skepticism, Ordeal
I’ve been waiting for new material from this group for years. Not one of their album has let me down.

7) Dragged Into Sunlight, N.V.
Slow, gross, crusty doom metal. This hits on all points of how to terrify your audience.

6) Immortal Bird, Empress / Abscess
Blasty, riffy goodness with just the right amount of kick-you-in-the-dick sludge. Double-bass for days.

5) Take Over And Destroy, Vacant Face
I recently discovered these guys and they definitely do not disappoint. Lots of strange and addictive elements to their music.

4) The Ocean/Mono split
Two fantastic bands collaborate to create one seriously amazing record. I have listened to this at least once a day since it surfaced.

3) Ahab, Boats of the Glenn Carrig
You can’t beat epic tales of boats, water, monsters and the likes. This is one of the best recorded albums I’ve ever heard.

2) Crown, Natron
This hits home with seemingly out of place industrial torture and goth rock anthems. This album quickly became a favorite of mine.

1) Swallow the Sun, Songs from the North I, II & III
I’ve been waiting for this for so long. Being one of my all-time favorites, I can only love what these guys come out with. It’s about time this exists.
