Exclusive Walkthrough Of New Clutch Vinyl Packaging

Posted by Bill Shouldis on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Big News, Contests, Packaging

Since Metal Insider and Clutch’s label Weathermaker Music share a building, we recently caught up with label head Jon Nardachone, where he unboxed and showed off the double vinyl version of their most recent album, Strange Cousins From the West. The package will come with a code to download the album, which features two songs that weren’t on last year’s CD release: “Metroliner Special” and an extended version of “50,000 Unstoppable Watts.” The album is available for pre-order now at indiemerchstore.com, and will be out on 3/9. There’s also a clear vinyl version that they’ll be selling on the road, which you’ll also see in the walkthrough.

UPDATE: Now, that crazy guy wants to give away a copy! Entering is easy! Just leave a comment below with your favorite Clutch lyric. We’ll pick one winner at random.

Contest Rules:
- One winner will win one copy of Clutch Strange Cousins From The West on vinyl.
- All winners will be selected at random and contacted via e-mail.
- One entry per person. Multiple entries WILL be disqualified.
- Entries must be in by 6 PM EST on March 3.
- Open to US Residents only.

Mastodon Continues Quest To Bankrupt Me

Mastodon Insider, Packaging

detail_royaleditionSeriously, what the fuck, Mastodon? I already spent $40 plus shipping on the “tunnel book” edition of Crack the Skye. Now you’re taking pre-orders on a “Royal Edition” (I have no idea why it’s called that) in brand new gold-stamped packaging and artwork with a cool warthog lithograph, all designed by the incomparable Paul Romano. It looks hawt.

I want it so bad, but can’t bring myself to spend another $40 on the same album for another deluxe packaging edition. Come on, loyal Insiders, buy Uncle Dan one of these for the holidays. I’ll trade you…((shuffles through prize closet))… a Tony Robbins self-help DVD! Why do we have this?

Two Goons Walk Through AC/DC Box Set Packaging

AC/DC, through their Fannation site, has released a video walk through of the packaging and contents of their upcoming Backtracks collector’s edition box set. There’s tons of cool stuff inside the fully operational amp, available November 10 through ACDCBacktracks.com, but fuck, do I have to watch this video on mute. I’m sure these two guys (who apparently play in an AC/DC tribute band) are being tongue in cheek and all, but if I wanted to hear this goofy inane rambling, I’d visit the corner deli.

Rammstein’s Liebe Ist Für Alle Da, out later this month, comes in a number of special packaging options, including a box set that comes with six… items. NSFW. I wonder if they match up with the members of the band. No pun intended! (For real! I’m so proud of myself. Ack! I could have made a “package-ing” pun!) Hit the jump to see what I’m talking about.

Have You Looked At The New Mudvayne Album… On WEED?

Posted by Bram Teitelman on Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Do What You Doob, Packaging

YouTube Preview ImageJust in time for Christmas, Mudvayne’s new self-titled album will be released on Epic Records on December 22. And nothing looks better under a Christmas tree or Hanukkah bush than a brand new Mudvane album. Then again, on first look, the new album won’t look much like anything. The album is being printed on blacklight-reactive ink, so seen in normal light, you won’t notice too much. Once viewed under a blacklight, much like that velvet Jimi Hendrix poster your uncle bought at Spencer Gifts back in the day, the album will take on a life of its own.

In fact, the special editions of the album will capitalize on the unique artwork. The standard jewel case version will be pretty much invisible to the naked eye unless your uncle still has that blacklight. The deluxe edition comes with its own black light, and the super deluxe version has a larger black light, a special edition black light reactive poster, and, as the press release trumpets, MORE! The album will look great if you’re looking at it by yourself, but it will look even better with a bud, if you’re picking up what we’re putting down.

To give their fans a taste of things to come, Mudvayne have posted a new song called “Beautiful and Strange” on their MySpace page.

Judge Issues Guilty Directed Verdict In Tenenbaum P2P Trial

Legal Woes, Packaging

The case of Sony v. Tenenbaum is rushing to a swift end (as expected) as Judge Nancy Gertner granted the record labels’ motion for a directed verdict on the issue of copyright infringement last night. Tenenbaum is now liable for infringing all 30 songs at issue. All that will be left to the jury is to determine the size of the damage award and whether the infringement was willful.

Judge Gertner’s change of heart came after she had a chance to review the transcript of Thursday’s testimony by Joel Tenenbaum. During direct examination, Tenenbaum was asked a simple question by the labels’ counsel: “on the stand now, are you admitting liability for downloading and distributing all 30 sound recordings that are at issue and listed on Exhibits 55 and 56 of the exhibits?” His simple “yes” answer was enough to hand the labels a victory on the question of liability.

“Notwithstanding the protestations of Tenenbaum’s counsel, Tenenbaum’s statement plainly admits liability on both downloading and distributing, does so in the very language of the statute (no ‘making available’ ambiguity) and does so with respect to each and every sound recording at issue here,” wrote Judge Gertner.

If the jury concludes that the infringement was willful, he could be forced to pay damages up to $150,000 per song (that’s $4.5 million). The decision was scheduled to be made today, we’ll bring you more as it happens.
