As you may recall, Eyehategod filmed a cameo for HBO’s Treme earlier this year. And recently, the episode featuring the NOLA sludge metal legends aired. But don’t worry, non-HBO subscribers, for a clip of the cameo has made its way online.
The scene features two characters at an Eyehategod show moshing, and includes plenty of close up shots of the band. Needless to say, you don’t have to be a fan of Treme to enjoy the cameo. So go ahead and watch Eyehategod’s appearance on Treme (at least until it gets taken down) in the video above.

Axl Rose may have conducted his first television interview in years on That Metal Show. However, last night marked a rare occasion for the Guns N’ Roses frontman: a late night talk show appearance.
Rose appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to promote Guns N’ Roses’ upcoming Las Vegas residency. And during the interview, Kimmel asked Rose the hard hitting questions… about Halloween. Ok, so it’s not really the in-depth interview fans may want. But Rose seemed to be in good spirits, and shared some humorous anecdotes on the show. It was funny, though, hearing Kimmel ask who of the new members would be the first to go. Either way, the interview went better than the Bridge School Benefit.
Part one of Axl’s interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! can be seen above, while the other two parts can be seen after the jump (also check out GN’R guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal sitting in with the house band). Read more »
Big Brother 13′s resident metalhead and reality show addict Adam Poch is recapping The Amazing Race for Metal Insider - specifically Team Headbangers, consisting of former White Lion/Megadeth/Black Label Society bassist James LoMenzo and entertainment lawyer Mark “Abba” Abbattista. You can follow Adam on Twitter at @heavymetalteddy.
Welcome to the latest edition of the Amazing Race 21 recap – focusing on TEAM HEADBANGERS – James LoMenzo & Mark ‘Abba’ Abbattista. When we last left our long-haired crusaders, they finished the third leg in 4th place. Moving up 2 spots from their first 2 weeks and starting to build some momentum. After getting their first clue – it was off to the airport where they would have to travel from Indonesia to Bangladesh. Since the next flight wasn’t until 10am the following morning – all 8 teams left in the race would be on the same flight – and it would basically be a game reset once they got off. This may have been good news to some of the teams that fell back in the last leg, but not good news for the teams that finished at or near the top last leg.
Once they arrived in Bangladesh – it was every team for themselves as they tried to get taxis and get to Rubel Model Auto Mobiles (a bus repair depot) in the city of Dhaka. Once there – the teams had to compete in their first Roadblock challenge – “Fill in the gaps.” As they showed us when the teams arrived in Bangladesh – the streets are very congested and the city buses look like they are always getting banged up – so one person from each team had to mix some putty with the correct color and fill in the dents in an area on the bus. Once they completed that – they then had to sand it down and get ready for it to be painted. But before the task was over and they could get their next clue – they had to remove 3 sets of chairs from inside the bus and get those ready to be reupholstered. The first 4 teams that arrived all started working on the buses - but when James & Abba showed up – they decided to try the Fast Forward challenge. In a Fast Forward, teams only have to perform 1 challenge for the leg – then they can move on to the next pit stop. Fast Forwards are usually pretty tough – and if you cannot complete it – then you have to go back and start at the Roadblock, losing precious time. Also, another fun part of the Fast Forward – if 2 teams are doing it, only the team that finishes first gets to skip the Detour and move right on. When you hear what the Fast Forward was – you will see why no other team was willing to try it. Read more »

Welcome to the latest edition of The Amazing Race 21 recap – focusing on TEAM HEADBANGERS – James LoMenzo & Mark ‘Abba’ Abbattista. After finishing in 6th place for the 2nd week in a row – it would be kinda cool if they finished in 6th place again – so their stats would be 6 6 6 – and with 9 teams left and only the top 8 moving on after this week – this would keep them in the race and make them even more metal then they already are. So lets see what happens.
The teams got their first clue of the week and had to make their way out of the 24 hour market in Surabaya, Indonesia and head to the Antika Jay Padang restaurant where they would have to compete in the Roadblock challenge. In this challenge – one member of each team had to serve as a waiter and stack 20 small plates of food and bring it to a table of hungry customers. The catch was, if they dropped any of the plates before serving them, they would have to start over. They arrived at the restaurant 5th as the team that won last week – twins Nadya & Natalie got lost in their cab. As we saw last week, the language barrier and not knowing where they are going caused problems for Abba & James – so this week it was the twins turn to feel the wrath! Once at the restaurant, Abba took on the challenge and did great not dropping any. It was funny to see Lexi from Team Longhorn – the first team to make it to the restaurant drop her plates and everyone in the place cheered & clapped. I thought it was only us immature Americans that did that! Anyway… Abba & James got out of there and raced to the train station where they had to make a 7:30am train. They got to the train station with just a couple of minutes to spare and good thing, because the next train to Bangil Indonesia was 3 hours after. The Twins who were right on their tail were not so lucky, just missing the train. This gave the 5 teams that made the train a 3 hour head start. While on the train, 4 of the teams, Goat Farmers, 2 sets of dating couples, and the Chippendale dancers (whom Abba gave the nick name Chipmunks) all sat together and discussed the upcoming Double U-Turn while looking for their next clue on the train.
(For those of you unfamiliar with The Amazing Race – a U-Turn is the ability of a team to force another team behind them to go back and do both parts of the Detour. A Double U-Turn means two teams can force another team behind them to do both parts. What made this even more intense is it was a Blind U-Turn, meaning the team that gets U-Turned would not know who did this to them).
The four teams besides the Headbangers all agreed not to U-Turn anyone as they were all but guaranteed to not get eliminated as there were 4 other teams on the later train. But since Abba & James were not sitting with them, could they have been targeted? Read more »
Has your television been lacking in the glam metal department lately? No? Well, tough. The very first All-Star Celebrity Apprentice was announced today and will feature Bret Michaels of Poison and Dee Snider of Twister Sister. Both frontmen were featured on previous seasons of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice, with Snider having appeared in season five (he was ultimately fired, presumably for not being able to take it anymore) and Michaels winning season three, which also featured Sharon Osbourne.
Michaels, on the subject of his victory, had this to say:
“I think that winning Apprentice was such an amazing amazing feeling,” Michaels added. “At the very end of ours, it came down to three people… Sharon Osbourne, myself and Holly Robinson Peete. And all three were fighting for three very personal causes. Holly’s son with autism, Sharon fighting for colon cancer, which has affected her, and me with my diabetes… Passion supersedes everything. You can have as much arguing and fighting as you want but when people are actually fighting for a real cause close to their heart, then that makes it the best emotion to watch.”
The season will begin filming shortly and will premiere in March 2013. If that’s too long to wait, you can still watch a certain other pair of headbangers tackle reality TV.

While Big Brother 13′s resident metalhead Adam Poch hasn’t been on The Amazing Race, the reality show contestant and fan did such a great job recapping Big Brother 14, which featured former Kittie bassist Jennifer Arroyo, that we thought we’d give him a chance to write about The Amazing Race, specifically Team Headbangers, consisting of former White Lion/Megadeth/Black Label Society bassist James LoMenzo and Mark “Abba” Abbattista. Welcome everyone to my Amazing Race 21 Recap – focusing on TEAM HEADBANGERS aka James LoMenzo & Mark ‘Abba’ Abbattista. For those of you that do not know, James was a member of White Lion during their heyday – and then has gone on to perform in Megadeth & Black Label Society among other bands. Abba is an entertainment lawyer who has dealt with some of the worlds biggest rock stars. Together they have traveled the world – but never on national TV with the chance to win up to $2 million dollars.
Episode 1 we were introduced to the 11 teams of 2 competing in this years race. This year, the teams were told they could double the prize money of $1 million for the team, if they could win the first leg of the race & the last leg of the race. This added a lot more intensity to the normally hectic Race. Once host Phil Keoghan told the teams about the added money – he yelled GO and the race was off.
The teams first had to propel themselves off a bridge to get their first clue. Then they were off to Shanghai China. The first 7 teams to get to the airport would be on a quicker flight and give them a huge advantage on the other 4. James & Abba got on the first flight – and once in China – they had to play against a 10 yr old Ping Pong champion. All they had to do was get 1 point vs. this junior champion. Easy right? Well that’s what James thought and he stepped up to the table only to get served over and over again. The 10 year old tried to make it easier by using things such as a clipboard and frying pan as a paddle. James was the 2nd person to finally get a point off the kid, and him & Abba were off to their next stop. As they got outside and into a taxi, they passed Abbie & Ryan who scored the first point and were off to a Chinese restaurant where Abba would have to compete in the next challenge. Read more »
Adam Poch, Big Brother 13′s “Heavy Metal Teddy Bear” and known metalhead, will be recapping the week in Big Brother 14′s current season for as long as former Kittie bassist Jenn Arroyo remains on the show. As long as Jenn’s in the game, Adam will weigh in. You can also follow him on Twitter at @heavymetalteddy.

Well, we have come to the end of the Jenncity era on Big Brother 14. In last night’s “Live” show – we saw Jenn become just another victim to the evil powers of Dan. After getting Jenn to use the Veto on him a couple of weeks ago, Jenn thought she was in good with Dan. What she did not realize was Dan was in good with everyone – and once he was done with you, he spits you right out the door to meet Julie Chen.
How did this happen? Well, despite Dan making attempts during the 2nd Double Eviction episode of the season last Thursday to get rid of Ian or Shane, he used his HoH to get rid of Joe. He did that to stay in good graces with Danielle, who balked at the idea of cutting Shane loose at that time. Dan knowing he was vulnerable started kissing Ian & Shane’s asses after Joe walked out the door. He had already used the veto last week to save Jenn – so he was still in good graces with her. But Jenn started getting suspicious when Dan failed to get rid of a bigger player with his HoH. Unfortunately for Jenn – Dan used his patented mist to get Jenn think he was still working with her. (in my best Julie Chen voice) In less than 2 weeks Big Brother will be crowning a new champion – and Jenn Arroyo is still in the hunt for the half million dollars – welcome to another episode of Biiiiiiig Brother!
(now in my best announcers voice) – previously on Big Brother….
(ok back to my own voice) Last week we saw our metal goddess Jenn make a big move in the game by going on slop for the rest of the summer to show she was working with Frank – and to keep the nominations the same. But after Dan used his patented mist to fool Frank, Jenn made another big move, but this may not have helped her. She kept Dan safe by removing him from the block and help send Brit out the door. Jenn failed to win the next Head of Household competition, and Ian – her ex-teammate now enemy did – putting a target on her back. Brit was Ian’s closest ally – so Jenn helping to get rid of her came back to bite her on the ass as Ian nominated her & Frank for eviction. She still had the chance to play for the Power of Veto – which was OTEV the Absent Minded Alien. Jenn did pretty well – but 3rd place was not good enough as she had to sit back and watch the last round between Frank & Dan. Jenn was hoping Dan won so he could return the favor of removing her from the block, and even Frank was cool with that scenario too. He still thinks he is in a 4 person alliance with Dan, Danielle, and Jenn – so this was a perfect scenario. Dan would win the Veto – remove Jenn, and Ian would be forced to replace her with Joe (since he made a deal during the HoH competition not to put up or back door Shane or Danielle). Frank would then think he had 3 votes to keep him and only one against him. What Frank & Jenn (and the whole house) don’t realize is Dan is playing everyone. Only person Dan is 100% loyal and honest to is us the fans – by telling us what he is doing, while quietly backstabbing anyone in his path. Dan is doing it so friendly and gracefully that no one realizes that he has Final 2 deals with just about everyone left.
Since Dan has played this game before – he knows how to work and manipulate people. After winning the Veto, he knew it was in his best interest to use the Veto on Jenn – and it would make sense since she did the same for him last week. But to make it that much better for Dan, he talked with Ian, making Ian think it was his idea for Dan to use the Veto on Jenn. This way there is no suspicion that Jenn & Dan are secretly working together. Dan did just that – and Joe went up as the replacement nominee. Paranoia always runs wild in the Big Brother house – but the moves of Dan these last 2 weeks has none of the paranoia (well, as little as possible) coming back to him. This is a perfect way for Dan to get Frank out of the house this week and not have any of Frank’s blood on his hands. But I am curious to see if Dan votes to evict Frank, and force Ian to break the tie. Or if he just “votes with the house.” Frank thinks he is safe – and he is in for a rude awakening as he most likely will be walking out the door tonight.
What does this mean for Jenn? Well, she is for sure in the final 6 – has a deal with Dan & one with Danielle – but will need to win a couple more competitions the next 2 weeks if she is going to win the 1/2 million. Tonight is going to be another Double Eviction episode so by the end of the show we will have our Final 5. If you remember just 2 weeks ago – there was a double eviction episode and shit went crazy. This time, with the stakes much higher as everyone can start smelling the money – expect another insane hour on CBS. Hopefully my column next week will not be Jenn’s Big Brother funeral coverage!
Also – fans of metal & reality shows – on the upcoming season of The Amazing Race – we have James LoMenzo (White Lion, Zakk Wylde, Megadeth bassist) & Mark Abbatista (entertainment lawyer). I will be doing an exclusive weekly recap on here as long as they stay on the show. James & Mark will keep the tradition of metalheads running wild on CBS for another few months. Hopefully in the next year or so we see Ted Nugent on Survivor!
You can catch me every Tuesday on “Rants & Roars” on Superpass and get my take on all the house guests.

Whether you’ve been watching it or not, we all know that the Republican National Convention took place this past week in Tampa, FL. Now to many fans, Tampa serves as the “mecca” of death metal. And as it turns out, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow agrees.
During a segment called “Debunktion Junction” on last Wednesday’s show, Rachel Maddow declared that Tampa is indeed the capital of death metal. While proving her point, Maddow plays a snippet of a Decide’s “Homage To Statan” video and gives a brief history on Cannibal Corpse (as well as mentions of Obituary, Hate Eternal, and Morbid Angel).
As Metal Injection points out, though, this is actually the second time Maddow declared Tampa the home of death metal. It’s also no secret that the anchor is a big Metallica fan as well. And though it’s not ideal to hear someone describe the genre as “Yay for Satan/anti-Jesus plot lines,” it is nonetheless cool to see bands like Hate Eternal and Deicide discussed on a news network (and not in the context of horrid events).
Watch death metal get a shout out on the “Debunktion Junction” around the 3:45 mark in the video after the jump. Read more »

In addition to their new album Apocryphon (set to come out on October 22), The Sword will also be pimping out their own hot sauce Tears Of Fire on September 4. That’s why it’s rather fitting that the stoner metal group will be appearing on the Travel Channel’s Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations – The Final Tour the day before.
Filmed at SXSW last March in Austin, TX, the episode supposedly features The Sword sharing a few drinks and fish tacos with host/legendary chef Anthony Bourdain (along with a plug for their hot sauce of course). The episode airs at 9pm on September 3, but a preview clip can be seen above. Can we just say how cool it is to see The Sword on the Travel Channel (let alone hanging out with Bourdain)?! It might be the most metal thing to happen to a reality food show since Hull’s appearance on Cake Boss.
Guitarist Kyle Shutt recently spoke to Alternative Press about Apocryphon, saying that the record is a little more straightforward. “This record is just 10 banging hard rockers,” he said. “There’s no real ‘stick out’ thrash song, or, like, this one is the ballad. I don’t think there’s going to be any instrumental songs on this record, either, so that’ll be a first for us. It’s just 10 kick-ass rock songs.”
