Not Exactly The Best Of Both Worlds: Gary Cherone To Open For Sammy Hagar

Why Can't This Be A Full Tour?

Sammy And Gary Belting "When It's Love" Together

Despite the success they had, Sammy Hagar always got flack for replacing David Lee Roth in Van Halen. So to say that singer Gary Cherone had it tough as well is an understatement, especially since the one album he did with Van Halen wasn’t exactly a big chart topper. But now Cherone, probably better known as the singer of Extreme, is swallowing up his pride and opening for his Van Halen predecessor.

It’s been confirmed that Cherone’s new band Hurtsmile will be opening for Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas this Saturday, June 4 at the AVA Amphitheater at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ. Granted, this probably isn’t as exciting as the Red Rocker and Roth’s Pound For Pound, Song For Song, Heavyweight Championship of the World Tour in 2002…ok it’s nowhere near as interesting as that. But isn’t it fitting that Cherone and Hagar are doing shows together while Roth is back in Van Halen?

Cherone actually joined Hagar for a rendition of “When It’s Love” during the Mansfield, MA stop on his tour with Roth (talk about the ultimate Van Halen event without Eddie Van Halen). Maybe this time they’ll break into a song from Van Halen III? Anyone want to hear “Fire In The Hole” one more time? …Anyone?
