Mastodon will headline this year’s Hope For the Day Benefit at Metro in Chicago on September 9th in support of proactive suicide prevention and mental health education. This event will mark the Georgia metallers’ first return to the Metro since 2009 and this time around, they are bringing Brain Tentacles and long-running thrash band Powermad (featuring guest drummer Charlie Benante of Anthrax) for the special occasion.

The group shared the following statement:

“Chicago! We are coming back on September 9th for a special concert in honor of suicide prevention month, 100% of the proceeds will support suicide prevention and mental health education.

We are also releasing the next batch of Crack The Skye beer with 3 Floyds’ and we are playing THE METRO for the first time since 2009! Please join us in breaking the silence around suicide and mental health, it would mean the world to us.”

Hope for the Day founder Jonny Boucher expressed his excitement:

“It’s amazing to be able to work with Mastodon, Dark Matter Coffee, 3 Floyds and the Metro on this event during national suicide prevention month. Last year we released the Crack the Skye beer and coffee on national suicide prevention day, so it only made sense to put on a show for the next release and support suicide prevention in a unique way.  We are thankful for everyone’s support and look forward to this exceptional event.”

Tickets go on sale this Friday (7), at 9 am CST.
