Tom Spicer has Fragile X Syndrome, a sort of autism. The only thing he’s ever asked or wanted was to one day meet his idol: Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. Thus, Tom’s siblings Kate and William take him on the road in an attempt to make his dream come true.

Their journey and hardships were chronicled in a new documentary called Mission To Lars, filmed by his brother William and James Moore. However, the film was made for more than just entertainment purposes. In addition to raising awareness for Spicer’s condition, the producers have already raised £25,000 for Mencap and hope to raise even more funds and awareness for the charity.

From what we’ve seen in the trailer above, Mission To Lars is a heartwarming story that could make even the heaviest metal fan tear up. Plus, it’s bringing attention to an important cause. As of now, Mission To Lars will only play in UK theatres this coming June, though a DVD release is in the works. A trailer for the film can be seen above, while more information can be found at its official website.
