With last week’s ruling by the U.S. Patent Office to cancel six trademarks of the Washington Redskins, the issue of how Native Americans are being treated by white America has once again become a hot button topic. Some are stating that it’s a case of government overstepping its bounds, other fans are saying the team name should stay and many others are calling the team name a racist relic from another time. It will all be ruled on before too long, but aside from the Redskins, the metal community has been addressing the treatement of Native Americans for years. Many songs found the persecution and forced relocation of Native Americans unjust, and there have been more than a few heavy songs written about the plight of Native Americans, some by Native Americans. With that in mind, here’s our top five (and an honorable mention) of metal songs written by or about Indians.
