5. Spiritual Beggars

A Swedish band that Fu Manchu toured Europe with back in the late 90’s. Fantastic musicians (including Michael Amott of Arch Enemy) and a great live band. If you run into them, tell ‘em I said hello.

4. Saint Vitus

It’s kind of on principal that I have Vitus on my list. Pioneers for sure. Chuck from Black Flag always tells me great Vitus stories. I was born too late.

3. Sleep

The first time I heard Sleep, I immediately knew 2 things….they loved Black Sabbath and they smoked weed. Sound like cool guys to me, and Matt Pike is indeed a very cool dude.

2. C.O.C.

Don’t know too many bands who have gone from early 80’s hardcore to giving Metallica a run for their money. Deliverance was stellar. Always a tad more metal than rock to my ears and that’s A-OK.

1. The Obsessed

Kyuss toured with The Obsessed back in the daze. I watched Wino literally kick ass every night. Wino is a bro and unquestionably the king of stoner metal.
