Earlier this month, NYC-based technical death metal band Pyrrhon released their Relapse debut and second full-length overall, The Mother of Virtues. It’s a step forward from their 2011 debut, with recording engineer Ryan Jones (Today is the Day, Mutilation Rites) and mastering engineer Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice) working on the album. If you like Ulcerate or Gorguts, then you’ve probably already listened to this album. The band describes the new release as “a mind bending merger of clanging death metal, surreal psychedelia, dark jazz rhythms and delirious storytelling.” We describe it as an intense mindfuck, with several tracks topping the eight-minute mark, but never wavering in intensity or technicality. If you’re looking for a more straight-ahead track, start with “Balkanized,” but expect to be overwhelmed in the best possible way.

Metal Insider is giving away two copies of The Mother of Virtues, which you can listen to over at their Bandcamp page. We’ll be giving away one copy each via Twitter and Facebook. To enter, just head over to our Facebook and Twitter pages and enter accordingly. We’ll pick a winner at the end of the week.

You can pick up The Mother of Virtues on CD or double-album at Relapse.
