As far as memes go, yesterday, Brent Hinds of Mastodon posted a pretty funny one on his Instagram account. It was a picture of Dave Grohl with the caption “making rock n roll safer with every red carpet all star jam.” As theprp pointed out, Grohl and Mastodon have a past, or at least he hung out with the band while they were recording The Hunter in Sound City Studios. Given the loose cannon status that Hinds has, he was probably just having some innocent fun at Dave’s expense on his personal Instagram account and means nothing by it. I mean there are no shortage of Dave Grohl memes. he hasn’t commented since the post.

Dave Grohl has done some things that might be a little on the cheesy side, like playing with Deadmau5 at the Grammy awards. But for the most part, he’s been able to jam with some of his favorite musicians, and it doesn’t seem like he’s doing it for anything more than pure joy. Not to mention, the Probot project that found him playing with members of Celtic Frost, Corrosion of Conformity, Voivod and King Diamond is a total labor of love and is more like a moldy carpet in a basement than a red carpet. While the Sound City documentary is a little showoffy, if Grohl wasn’t that concerned with preserving rock history, the Mastodon album might have been one of the last times the sound board was ever used.

Mastodon’s Once More ‘Round the Sun will be released on June 24th.
