On September 16th, Magnetic Eye will be releasing Meantime [Redux], a tribute to Helmet’s classic second album, Meantime. In addition to the 10 songs covered from the 1992 album, there are also six more Helmet jams like “Milquetoast” and “Sinatra” covered on the dhttps://reduxrecords.bandcamp.com/album/meantime-redux-i-deluxe-editioneluxe edition. It’s a great combo of metal and hardcore bands represented, with Kings Destroy and Meek Is Murder represented. Also, KEN Mode are on the album, taking on “Turned Out.” which Lambgoat premiered today. Here’s what frontman Jesse Matthewson says of the cover:

“Helmet’s ‘Turned Out’ is our bassist’s favorite song on Meantime, so it’s suiting that he wasn’t around to witness us butcher it till it barely resembled the original. We’ve never been huge fans of doing covers, so when faced with this proposition, we had to find a way to make the song more fun for ourselves. Nobody wants to hear bands like us play Helmet karaoke anyway, as the group is basically 90s canon – if people want to hear the song, they’ll go to the original. So this is our ‘Turned Out’ as inspired by Helmet’s original.”

It’s a great version, bring the band’s noise-rock dynamic, which was obviously inspired by Amphetamine Reptile bands like Helmet – to the song. It’s a little spazzier, in a good way, and not quite as locked-in as Helmet’s robotic version of the track. You can pre-order the album here.
