Ozzy Apparently Seeking New Guitarist, Zakk Wylde Confused

Posted by Dan Rodriguez on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at at 2:20 pm

Drama

zakkozzyOzzy Osbourne nonchalantly dropped the bomb to Classic Rock magazine that he’s parted ways with longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde and is currently auditioning new guitarists, including virtuoso Rob Zombie guitarist and consummate weirdo John 5.

“Well, I’m getting a new guitar player as we speak,” said Ozzy, “and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, ‘Get Johnny 5!’ And I tried him at one time and I didn’t really give him a chance. We’ll see, I don’t know. I haven’t fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk’s got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society. I just felt like I wanted a change, y’know?

It’s a totally adorable and appropriate Ozzy-ism that he’s confusing John 5 with Johnny 5. Meanwhile, this is all coming as news to poor Zakk Wylde, who’s airing his confusion on Twitter:

I haven’t heard anything about this. Until I talk to the Boss I don’t know. I love Ozzy. I’m doing Blizzcon with him in August and supposed to finish up the cd in September….this is news to me.

It should also be noted that our friends at Metal Sucks totally suggested Ozzy make this move last year.

Damn!!! While I cant argue that them going their seperate ways isnt the best for both of them, I just love Wylde too much!!!
Although it should also be noted that this isnt the first time Ozzy has said he is letting Wylde go only to have him return. Back in 2005 when he was recording the covers album for the Prince of Darkness box set, Ozzy basically stated the same thing (except for the part that he “felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society”). While he got Jerry Cantrell to record the covers album, shortly after he had Wylde come right back for touring and Black Rain. So maybe we shouldnt hold our breath until they actually find someone.
Also, while John 5 in Ozzy’s band would be amazing, I dont think itll happen since 5 has said how happy he is working with Zombie. Though you never know!

BTW I usually signed in as Zach S, but Im on a different computer and forgot to login/type in my usual screenname. Not that anyone will really care though haha

its true…ozzy’s albums DID start to sound like BLS
Unless Zakk starts to write more ‘ozzy’ songs rather than ‘4-minute-dynamite-based on one riff’ songs this cannot work out. Of course J5 is not for ozzy’s band. ozzy should get someone like GUS G

This video is for Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
Over the years Ozzy has influenced millions of fans to want to pick up a guitar play it the way they heard it on any Ozzy album. I say, Instead of finding a new guitarist for Ozzy, why not let the fans that The Ozzman has inspired over the years to play guitar, step up and show Ozzy how He has impacted them, by getting a chance to play with OZZY live on stage.
The fans know how the music should be played, and will play Ozzy’s music the way it was meant to be played. The way Ozzy intended it sound.
Not only would this connect Ozzy to his fans even more, but it would give the fans a way to connect with Ozzy in such a way that they would never had a chance to do before.
You have inspired us all Ozzy….
    We love you…………..

Black Label Society is a Band that stands for itself. They have a great following of fans around the world and Zakk is by far the ultimate guitar hero that never gave up. I don’t feel sorry for him. Maybe now we’ll have more black label. The only thing that bugs me is that if ozzy wanted to change axeman he should have discussed that with Wylde, not just drope statement on “shitty press”. I guess his shitty wife/manager didn t think of that. Black Label became too big for Zakk to be a frontman, then go fill a secondary role in the ozzy circus. The name Zakk Wylde stand on its own.
    PS: Blasko rocks
