Faith No More To Perform ‘King For A Day…” In Its Entirety; Mike Patton Collaborating With DEP’s Ben Weinman

Fans going to see Faith No More at the Maquinaria Festival in Santiago, Chile on November 12 are in for a special treat (as if seeing Faith No More playing live wasn’t special enough). Both keyboardist Roddy Bottum and bassist Billy Gould have confirmed via Twitter that the band will be performing 1995’s King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime in its entirety with guitarist Trey Spruance at the festival. Spruance, who was also in Mr. Bungle with frontman Mike Patton, recorded guitar for the first album not to feature original guitarist Jim Martin. However, he was only listed as a guest musician and left the group shortly before the band started touring. At the moment, it is unclear if Faith No More’s performance at the Maquinaria Festival will include a separate set with Jon Hudson (Spruance’s replacement and who has been playing in Faith No More’s reunion lineup) or whether Spruance will play the entire set.

In other Faith No More related news, it was revealed a while back that Mike Patton and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman were collaborating on a new project together. When asked by Brutality Blog whether the band would ever work with Patton again, Weinman revealed the following:

“I don’t think as Dillinger, as a band [we’ll work with Patton again], but I’m probably going to be doing some project with him. I’m actually working on something right now. It’s in the works, there’s some things in the works… It’s not a secret, it’s just kind of in the early stages of… we don’t know exactly what it’s would it to be. So it’s very early stages of development.”

And here we thought Weinman was busy enough with awesome collaborations. This is especially good news for fans of the Irony Is a Dead Scene EP, which DEP recorded with Patton while they were in between singers. Chances are, though, we’ll have to wait for this project to come to light seeing how busy Weinman and Patton keep themselves. You can listen to “Hollywood Squares” or “Pig Latin” after the jump if you need something to hold you over. Now if only Faith No More would record new music…and play more shows…
