Maiden, Slipknot Clean Up At Golden Gods Awards

slipknot_and_amon_amarth_top_metal_hammer_golden_gods_2009_nominations-1-249-250-85-nocropWhile America is still getting used to the idea of a metal awards show following Revolver’s foray into the Golden Gods earlier this year, the UK and Metal Hammer have been doing it for years.

Their seventh annual event found Iron Maiden and Slipknot the big winners, each picking up a pair of awards. Iron Maiden won the biggest award of the night, the Golden God award, as well as ‘Best UK band,’ whichthey picked up for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, Slipknot nabbed ‘Best International Band’ and ‘Best Live Band.’ Other winners included Def Leppard, who were named ‘Legends’ by Steel Panther and Roadrunner, which was named ‘Best Metal Label.’ A complete list of winners after the jump.

Spirit of Hammer Award – Saxon

Dimebag Darrell Shredder Award – Herman Li & Sam Totman (Dragonforce)

Best Live Band – Slipknot

Best International Band – Slipknot

Icon Award – Marilyn Manson

Breakthrough Award – Amon Amarth

Best Album – Lamb of God,  Wrath

Metal As Fuck – Anvil

Inspiration Award – Emperor

Riff Lord – Steve Vai

Legends - Def Leppard

Best UK Band – Iron Maiden

Golden God – Iron Maiden
