Metallica hit the ice with Antarctica show

Posted by on December 9, 2013

Metallica announced in October they would be playing Antarctica, which many people found odd. Then again, this has been a year of firsts for the band, so why not? Well, it happened yesterday, and there are pictures to prove it. The audience consisted of Coca Cola Zero contest winners, the ship crew, and scientists from all over the world, including Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany.

The band played on a helipad at Carlini Station under a small dome with a set consisting of 10 songs:

Creeping Death
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Sad But True
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Master of Puppets
One, Blackened
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Seek & Destroy

Why on earth they didn’t play “Trapped Under Ice” we may never know. Still, few bands can say they’ve played Antarctica, so it’s worth checking out the gallery from the show.
