Did Joe Perry Forget Something?

Get A Grip Joe

If you’ve been following TMZ or pretty much any other rock website for the past few months, then you know all about the Aerosmith drama. You’ve all seen Joe Perry hip bump Steven Tyler into the audience, and you’ve surely heard about the American Idol rumors. Well in a recent interview with The Calgary Herald, Perry whines a little more, even going back to the whole “finding a new singer” spiel.

But amongst all the threats and crying, there was one particular claim Perry made regarding American Idol that got me a tad bothered. He says:

“It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising. It’s one step above (‘Teenage Mutant’) ‘Ninja Turtles’ … It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

Now in no way are we trying to defend American Idol, in fact we couldn’t really give a crap if Tyler ends up being a judge on the show or not. However, it does seem hypocritical to not want Aerosmith’s name attached to the show simply because, well, Perry himself actually performed on American Idol!! Not only did the guitarist perform with Kelly Clarkson at the season 6 finale of American Idol, but Perry also performed “You Really Got Me” with Sanjaya. Really, Joe? It damages the band’s name if Tyler is a judge on American Idol, but it’s ok for you to not only perform on the same show, but with Sanjaya?! You can watch the said performance above.
