Every now and then (aka when he feels like it), A&R guy, writer, and all around metal dude Mike Gitter contributes to his third or fourth favorite metal blog. After reviewing a handful of recent releases earlier this week, He’s back with his thoughts on Behemoth’s Evangelion.
Behemoth, Evangelion (Metal Blade)
So how many Polacks does it ta…what the fuck! The warlord from Warsaw (or thereabouts) may be the recipient of this year’s “Reign in Blood Memorial Award”. Oh, Adam Darksi (his given nom de plume) you exceed yourself! At the top of all the technical ecstasy, it kinda makes sense that “Daimonos” is invoking the John Belushi of Greek mythology Dionysus. What follows is a bloat of blasphemy, blast beats, bellicose barking and sundry nasties amidst a Caligula-like serving of guitar excess. Not that the Behemoth gang don’t have time to settle down for a big fattie of a groove with the like of “Ov Fire And The Void”. Nergal knows what he wants and he knows how to invoke it better than pretty much anyone since we had Trey Azagrhoth to deal with. Polska uber alles!
