Mario Comesanas: 9/7/1980 – 6/13/2011

Posted by on June 14, 2011

The metal community has lost one of its own way too young, as SiriusXM Liquid Metal host and musician Mario Comesanas passed away yesterday (13) from an alleged sudden brain hemorrhage in Jersey City, NJ at the age of 30. Mario began his career in the music industry as a DJ at legendary college metal station WSOU/South Orange, NJ. He was one of the hosts of the “Hardcore Reality” specialty show at the station before making the jump to SiriusXM, where he could be heard every day on Liquid Metal. A source tells Metal Insider that he’d been complaining of headaches before finally checking himself into a hospital late last week.

Mario was more than a show host, though. He was also a musician, singing for Jersey hardcore bands December Aeternalis, and most recently, Low Road. In addition to SiriusXM, he had also had a stint working for Revolver magazine. When the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival began in 2008, the magazine sent Mario on the road with the festival to host artist meet and greets and do marketing for the magazine, which is where he met his fiance. Most recently, he’d also been doing some work with independent label distributer RED Distribution.

Even without meeting Mario, you could tell just from listening to him that he was a friendly, passionate and positive guy that bled metal. And to many at WSOU, SiriusXM, Revolver, and countless people in the New York and New Jersey metal community in general, he was a friend. His positivity and enthusiasm was infectious, and we’re having trouble believing he’s gone so suddenly. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. SiriusXM’s statement, taken from Mario’s Facebook page and presumably from Liquid Metal’s Jose Mangin, is below.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our very close friend & fellow Liquid Metal host Mario Comesanas who passed away earlier this evening at 8:39pm ET in Jersey City, NJ… I got the chance to say goodbye, hold his hand, kiss his head & tell him thank you for being a Metal soldier with me all these years & to say hi to Dime for me…Our thoughts & prayers are w his fiance Liz, Mario’s family, friends & fans worldwide… for respect for the family any other info will have to wait. For now, please leave your comments here for all to see. We love you Mario & thanks for coming into our lives swinging & kicking! Rest in Peace…

I worked with Mario at one of his first industry jobs at Music Choice. He was a great, funny kid who sang with such a scream but never hurt his throat. I still don’t know how he did that. You will be missed. My prayers go out to the family.

Mario and I went to the same grammer school (Holy Family) and same youth group program throughout high school. He was one of the most kind, and gently, people I had ever known. he will truly be missed by all. My prayers go out to his family, fiance, and friends. May you RIP, Mario.

Mario has been by best friend for 18 years. We were just working on his wedding plans 4 days ago. This is still totally inconceivable to me. Mario is one of my favorite people on earth, always the truest friend you could ask for. Always had my back no matter the day time or circumstance. I remember when december was a terrible garage band! Haha we definitely hasd some great times, and I was lucky to watch them evolve over the years to this incredibly talented group. Mario was taken from us way too soon. Rip brother, see you on the other side.

FUUUUUUUCKKKKK!! I Just listened to Mario a couple of months back and just tuned in to Liquid Metal today to “listen-up”!! I am shocked!!! I can hear his voice so clearly in my head!! Yes, he is probably socializing with all of the “metal” luminaries in the “most perfect sky”. Does anybody remember how he talked about the time that he met and hung out with Ronnie James Dio? Well, I am sure they both exchanged kind words to each other on that ethereal plane. I’m sorry that I’m late in my recognition of the passing of a man I enjoyed listening too. I salute you my brotha!! I throw up my “HORNS” in your honor.
