Since this past Summer, Between The Buried And Me bassist Dan Briggs has been jamming with Brand New Life flutist/saxophonist Walter Fancourt and Eyris drummer Matt Lynch in a jazz/prog group called Trioscapes. After originally intending just to play one show, the three quickly went into the studio and recorded a full length album worth of material with Jamie King (who most notably has worked with BTBAM) in Winston-Salem, NC.

And not only has the trio announced that they’ve signed with Metal Blade Records, but they’ve also released a new song from their debut album Separate Realities called “Blast Off.” At first listen, it’s obviously that Trioscapes is a huge contrast to Metal Blade’s typical signings (with the possible exception of 3). In fact, the only reason the signing makes sense is because Metal Blade also plays home to Briggs’ main band. However, it’s a safe bet that most prog rock fans will love Trioscapes as well.

Give the song “Blast Off” a listen for yourself. Trioscapes’ debut album Separate Realities will be released on May 8 in North America by Metal Blade Records, while a 12” LP will also be released by Dan Briggs’s own Hogweed & Fugue Records. Pre-orders for the album can also be made online.
