We’re still glad that Adam “Nergal” Darski is recovering well after his bone marrow transplant, but now he has to deal with another pain: Polish religious nuts…again. Back in 2007, Nergal called the Catholic Church “the most murderous cult on the planet” and tore up a copy of the Bible, calling it “a book of lies,” during Behemoth’s performance in Gdynia, Poland. The incident resulted in the All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects suing Behemoth for promoting Satanism. Though the District Court in Gdynia dismissed the case last Summer, the case has now been appealed and Nergal had to appear in court once again earlier today.

While he confirmed that the incident took place (as proven by the video up top), Nergal stressed that the only people offended by his actions were people not at the concert. He also continued to offend his action as “an artistic metaphor.” Metal Blade Records released a statement from Nergal about the hearing:

“I spent 5 hours In the court in Gdynia today. The case is back on track and there’s still few witnesses to be interviewed. It’s way too early to give any further comment. I just hope the final verdict is gonna be positive for me. I have a feeling that I’m in this situation for right reasons and I’m not giving up. Cross fingers! The battle ain’t over yet…”

Pretty much we feel the same way as probably most metal fans: this is ridiculous. The fact that anyone can be punished for unflattering comments about another’s religious beliefs is simply in our mind absurd. You can watch video of the bible tearing incident, which Nergal also claims was illegally distributed because it had been made clear that no photography or recording was allowed during the show, can be seen up top. You can also watch Nergal talking outside of the courtroom to Polish TV (in polish) online.
