Friday the 13th is among us once again – everyone’s favorite unofficial holiday for cheap tattoos and avoiding your neighbor’s sketchy black cat. There are countless media references to Friday the 13th, and quite a few of them are of the metal persuasion, so we’ve compiled some of the best songs related to the day, or more often, the series of slasher films that have been around for 35 years now. Since there are so many Friday the 13th movies, we got Charred Walls of the Damned drummer, Howard Stern producer and huge horror movie fan Richard Christy to rank them, which you can see here.

1) Alice Cooper,  “He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)”

Alice Cooper recorded this one for his album Constrictor, for which it served as the main single. It was also used as the theme song for Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, released the same year as his album. The song has an unmistakable “80s Alice Cooper” vibe to it.

2) Glenn Danzig, “Thirteen”

Danzig actually wrote this song for Johnny Cash to record, but his originally recorded version is way spookier.

3) Ed Gein, “Bathed in Orange”

This grindcore song starts out with a sample of the infamous “Get her mommy, kill her, kill her” line Mrs. Voorhees delivers in Friday the 13th. This is probably to be expected from a band named after a serial killer.

4) Force of Evil, “Voorhees’ Revenge”

This Danish heavy metal outfit penned a badass tune about exactly what the title implies. Lyrics include the repeated chorus, “The Crystal Lake Massacre/Vorhees’ revenge”. Bonus: this song has a pretty damn sweet solo.

5) Frightmare, “Friday the 13th”

This band seems to be REALLY into the Friday the 13th franchise. This very thrashy song is another that features a sample from the movie, and the covers for parts 1 & 2 are featured on the back of their album artwork.
