It’s been about ten months since the sudden passing of guitarist Cory Smoot. And though they’ve retired the character of Flattus Maximus, GWAR continued on as a four piece on the road. And now it appears that their search for a new Scumdog has come to an end.

While an official statement has yet to be made, Dave Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus) confirmed the identity of GWAR’s new guitarist during an interview with WRIR’s What The Fontaine. As it turns out, Cannabis Corpse/Antietam 1862 guitarist Brent Purgason will be taking on guitar duties. He will be performing in the band under the persona Pustulous Maximus, who as Brockie explained is a member of the “Maximus Clan” that came down to earth along with fellow members to shred on the new album only to get left behind. Purgason will reportedly make his debut with the band on the Fate Of Chaos tour.

In addition to that, though, Brockie also revealed that GWAR’s new album will actually feature numerous guitarists. Each artist will appear on the album as Scumdog versions of themselves (as part of the “Maximus Clan” mentioned above) as a tribute to the late Smoot. While we know that the band has been working on new material these past few months, more details regarding the release have yet to be revealed. However, we’re sure that an official statement regarding the new album and new guitarist will come soon.

Brockie’s entire interview with What The Fontaine can be heard online [note: Brockie reveals the news of their new guitarists and guest appearances around the 34:20 mark].
