Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

Unless your band name starts with “M” and you’re from the UK, you probably weren’t seeing the top album sales for this week. That being said, we have sales from a British-Canadian supergroup and an Australian metalcore band that’s riding on a lot of hype.

Notable Debuts

AxeWound, Vultures (Search and Destroy) #154, 2,700 sold
This British-Canadian supergroup, is comprised of members from Bullet for My Valentine, Glamour of the Kill, Cancer Bats, Rise to Remain, and Pitchshifter. In addition, the album features Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates as a guest on the title track, which is sure to attract attention. It’s a pretty respectable debut for the supergroup.

The Amity Affliction, Chasing Ghosts (Roadrunner) 800 sold
The Amity Affliction is a metalcore band that hails from Australia and has recently gained a lot of popularity after being signed to Roadrunner in the states, but this is a far cry from their home continent, where the album actually debuted at #1. They’ll soon be embarking on The AP Tour in good company. With that in mind, we expect that they’ll be seeing a lot more sales for Chasing Ghosts in the coming weeks.

As I Lay Dying, Awakened (Metal Blade) #58, 8,400 sold
While album experiences the typical second week drop, it’s still off to a sold start.

In This Moment, Blood (Century Media) #107, 3,700 sold
This album has nearly hit the 55,000 mark after 8 weeks.

Halestorm, The Strange Case Of… (Atlantic) #117, 3,500 sold
On week 26, the album has been holding steady.

Rush, Clockwork Angels (Roadrunner) #121, 3,400 sold
If these guys don’t end up becoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees…well, life will go on as it was. Only the Hall of Fame will be taking even more flak and Rush will be even more awesome.

Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist (Prospect Park) #136, 2,900 sold
This sold roughly the same as last week.

Shinedown, Amaryllis (Atlantic) #156, 2,600 sold
It’s a sharp 35 percent drop for Shinedown.

Down, Down IV Part I – The Purple EP (Down) #173, 2,300 sold
Sales have gone…down for Down. But in all seriousness, this is doing well for an EP.

Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) #183 2,100 sold
In well over a year on the charts, this album has held on and done respectably well.

Steve Harris, British Lion (UmE) 1,100 sold
A sharp drop in sales seems to have tamed this lion.

Witchcraft, Legend (Nuclear Blast) 800 sold
This album hasn’t quite reached legend status after sales dropped by over half.

The Devin Townsend Project, Epicloud (HevyDevy) 700 sold
The bonus edition contains a bonus disc dubbed Epiclouder. Possibility of an Epicloudest?

Otherwise, True Love Never Dies (Century Media) 550 sold
A 22 percent increase. Seriously, what is it with this album?

Sybreed, God Is An Ammunition (Listenable) 480 sold
This industrial band got a small boost this week.

Texas Hippie Coalition, Peacemaker (Carved) 440 sold
Any chance of “red dirt metal” actually become a thing?

Fozzy, Sin and Bones (Century Media) 410 sold
A steep 68 percent drop.

The Casualties, Resistance (Season of Mist) 400 sold
Not much action for this album.

Propaghandi, Failed States (Epitaph) 360 sold
Drummer Jord seems to enjoy  wearing a certain summer garment (the one on the far right).

Ensiferum, Unsung Heroes (Spinefarm) 360 sold
Is it just us or do these guys always look like they’re ready to charge into battle?

This Or The Apocalypse, Dead Years (eOne Music)  350 sold
We assume that the alternative to the apocalypse is an episode of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Vision of Disorder, The Cursed Remain Cursed (Candlelight) 330 sold
We’re just excited to have these guys at our Happy Hour during CMJ.

Becoming the Archetype,  I Am (Solid State) 320 sold
I Am…not sure how much longer this will stay on the charts.
