For the most part, tour manager/former Bury Your Dead bassist Aaron “Bubble” Patrick has been DevilDriver’s bassist (in place of Jonathan Miller). However, when Patrick fell ill with Streptococcus Pneumonia last year, Bury Your Dead guitarist Chris Towning filled in on bass. Now it looks like the temporary gig has led to something more permanent.

When asked via Twitter who DevilDriver’s new bassist was, frontman Dez Fafara named Towning as “Our permanent guy.” It’s unclear whether this means Towning will still play guitar in Bury Your Dead (which he joined in 2008), but Fafara’s tweet confirms that he’s now in DevilDriver as their bassist. At first, we were a little surprised that Patrick wasn’t joining DevilDriver on a permanent basis. However, it’s likely that Patrick simply wants to continue on solely as a touring manager (currently he is on the road with Hatebreed). We expect Towning to make his recording debut with DevilDriver on their new album and first via Napalm Records, due out later this year.
