Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan Joins Pro Wrestling Company: MyFoxCHICAGO.com

It’s not unusual to see the worlds of hard rock and wrestling combined together. However, we would’ve never pinned Billy Corgan as a wrestling fan. As it turns out, he’s actually a pretty big wrestling fanatic, having shown up to multiple Chicago wrestling events and even appearing in a TNA Wrestling promo video. And now the Smashing Pumpkins frontman is taking his love for pro wrestling to the next level by launching his own professional wrestling company.

For the past year, Corgan has been working on the launch of Resistance Pro Wrestling, in which he will serve as “creative director” and be in charge of the storylines. Last Thursday, October 13, Corgan talked to FOX News Chicago about his new endeavor into wrestling. You can watch the interview in the video above, but here’s what he had to say in regards to how he got into the business:

“I’ve been involved sort of behind the scenes with pro wrestling for about a decade and made a lot of friends in the business. It’s a very insular business and it’s a long story, but I essentially got involved with some brothers who had a wrestling promotion. We decided to form our own promotion and we’re going to try to bring back to the glory days.”

According to the company’s website, Resistance Pro Wrestling’s roster includes names like former ECW/WCW/WWE star Raven (who is serving as the company’s “agent,” the guy plans the matches) and Harry Smith (son of the late British Bulldog), just to name a few. While it’s likely Corgan will mostly remain behind the scenes, it would be funny to see him taking on the “Vince McMahan role” and taking on his employees in the ring. Plus, it’s possible that Corgan will have more free time on his hands following the Smashing Pumpkins’ release of Oceania. Resistance Pro Wrestling’s first match will be on November 25 at Chicago’s Excalibur nightclub.
