Anthrax played a snippet of new material during their Knotfest performance this weekend, and according to guitarist Scott Ian it’s from their upcoming album. It’s only a 30 second “tease,” and there are no vocals, but it’s still something new from one of the Big Four!

Metal Insider was at the Chile On Hell DVD screening back in September, when bassist Frank Bello spoke of the new album:

“We want an album next year,” Bello said. “We like to be challenged.” He added that him, Ian and drummer Charlie Benante got together last week in New York and worked on some songs. They’re tentatively scheduled to convene in November and start recording. When asked if lead guitarist Jon Donais (of Shadows Fall) would be writing on the new album, they said that he’d just be soloing for now. “I didn’t know how good he was as a guitar player when he joined,” Bello said. “He’s a burner, but a really tasteful soloist.”

When guitarist Rob Caggiano quit and joined Volbeat, Donais came aboard to fill in. Though not official, Scott Ian has said, “in my mind, he’s the guy…. As far as I’m concerned, Jon is the guitar player in Anthrax.”
