If you stopped by an independent record store and got a Metallica mask over the weekend, congratulations on the lamest costume ever. That being said, if you got one, you’ve spent the last half hour listening to”Atlas, Rise!,” another new track from Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self Destruct. We’ll have the whole album in a little over two weeks, but now that we’ve heard one quarter of it, we think that we can pretty much firmly state that this is one of the better Metallica albums we’ve heard in years. Then again, it’s also the first one we’ve heard in almost a decade, so that almost doesn’t count. We really like the chorus, and the break where there are dual guitar harmonies, and the verse is driving and riffy as hell. Yeah, on first listen, we’re really digging this.
