Is there anything Mike Patton can’t do? He automatically gains respect for Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. But not many artists can pull off singing in an avant-garde metal supergroup like Fantomas AND release an Italian rock-meets-orchestra project like Mondo Cane. He even rocks at doing video game/movie voicework! That’s why as odd as it may sound at first, it’s not too surprising that Patton could make singing a Christmas song sound awesome.

Patton can be heard singing “The Christmas Song” on composer John Zorn’s new holiday themed album A Dreamer’s Christmas. The slow jazz rendition is definitely much mellower than most of Patton’s work, but it’s very well done nonetheless. However, King Diamond’s ode to Christmas is still our favorite holiday jingle.

You can listen to Patton and Zorn’s rendition of “The Christmas Song” in the video above. A Dreamer’s Christmas can be bought on iTunes, while a limited edition 7” vinyl single is available as well.
