New Music

This week’s list of new releases is short, and I lack any witticisms to justify the title choice. It’s just the name of a good song by White Zombie. So without any further ado, here are your new releases for this week:

Rob Zombie, Mondo Sex Head (Geffen)

Mondo Sex Head is a remix album offering new versions of Zombie’s biggest hits by some of the most prolific DJs and electronic artists today. The big highlight of the album is a remix of the White Zombie classic “Thunder Kiss ’65″ by none other than Jonathan Davis of Korn, operating under the name JDevil, while Chino Moreno also shows up on the album (as  †††) . This could be seen by some as a last ditch attempt by Geffen Records to extract one last bit of money out of Zombie following his move to Roadrunner Records in 2009, but given some of Zombie’s comments about the album, it certainly feels like he put his stamp of approval on the project. And even if this album may not be actual new material, it’s still definitely worth checking out to hold fans over until Zombie releases his next full-length.

10 Years, Minus the Machine (Palehorse)

On their sixth studio album since forming in 1999, Knoxville’s 10 Years decided to try doing things a little more independently from their previous releases. To that end, they’re releasing Minus the Machine on their own Palehorse Records, an imprint of Warner’s ILG. The first single off the album, “Backlash”, is already making an impact on radio, and should help secure the group with their third straight debut in the top 20 of the Billboard 200. Although 10 Years has never quite had the public face of contemporaries like Shinedown and Seether, they’ve still managed to keep pace with their more publicly recognizable counterparts, and they deserve some recognition for that alone.

Also being released this week:

Grave Digger, Home at Last EP (Napalm)

Bilocate, Summoning the Bygones (Aural)

Next Week: We celebrate new material from one of the best young acts in technical death metal worldwide, along with plenty of other great new music. You won’t want to miss this!
