Ronnie James Dio’s Last Song To Be Released

Posted by on December 3, 2010

In an interview with the U.K.’s Classic Rock magazine, former Dio guitarist Craig Goldy revealed that a new song Ronnie James Dio worked on before his death will be released next year. Goldy said the following:

“We were working on tracks for a new Dio album just before Ronnie died in May. And we did almost finish one song. Wendy [Dio, Ronnie’s widow/manager] has been talking about reissuing [Dio’s] Magica album (originally released in 2000) with bonus tracks, including this one. The thing is that the lyrics deal with what Ronnie was going through at the time, when he was battling cancer. So now they are very emotional. It’s hard to listen without a lump in your throat.”

I’m sure many fans would love to hear the last song Dio ever worked on, and you can bet for sure that the reissue will sell quite a few copies. It’s unclear as to what other bonus tracks will be on the re-release, although it’s a safe bet that it’ll feature songs Dio was working on for the follow up to Magica. One song that came from those sessions called “Elektra” appeared on the limited edition box set Tornado, which was originally made for the Dio Fall 2009 European tour that was canceled due to his illness. We will keep you updated when more is revealed about the reissue.
