Father of late Oderus Urungus suing GWAR for alleged theft of property and remains

Posted by on April 7, 2015

As if the devastation of losing a loved one wasn’t enough for both the family and bandmates of David Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus of GWAR), they are now in a legal battle against each other.

William Brockie, father of the late David , is accusing the members of GWAR of stealing possessions and cremated remains belonging to his son as well as using Oderus’ likeness without the proper permissions. Brockie filed a lawsuit on April 2nd of this year, about a year after his son’s passing on March 23, 2014.

The lawsuit alleges that GWAR is trying to capitalize on the death of Oderus by selling memorial merchandise and raising money for the “Dave Brockie Fund” – all actions that seem charitable, but William Brockie states he did not consent to.  On top of that, William Brockie is claiming that his son was never paid for the 2014 Far East tour of Asia and Australia. Brockie claims that GWAR drummer Brad Roberts (aka Jizmak Da Gusha) is the ringleader for this so-called conspiracy.

Also in the suit, Brockie accuses Roberts of stealing the cremated remains of his son, giving William Brockie only a small portion of them in a used plastic bag.

William Brockie is seeking $1 million in compensatory and punitive damages as well as an injuctive relief on claims of conversion, breach of contract, and unauthorized use of David Brockie’s likeness.

There’s no word on the truth behind these claims or on the status of the lawsuit as of right now. Brad Roberts has not commented nor has any other member of GWAR.
