We knew the newest SUNN O))) studio album Kannon would be coming out this December on Southern Lord, but the band has slowly been revealing details (like a 15 second clip) about their seventh full length, and now have recently revealed the amazing album art work.

The sculpture on the cover of Kannon was done by Angela Lafont Bolliger, who gave some insight on the piece:

“…I started with an intense research of Guanyin, the imagery, the history, and immersed myself completely into the subject. I then put together a very detailed presentation of ideas… we came to a unanimous decision and went for an idea of “the abstraction of the God of Mercy”. It started by sculpting different black reflective materials, which I then combined with ancient rocks and crystals allowing the surface to be rich and to be viewed as something unseen – an undulating form representing Guanyin’s many hands and heads…”

Kannon is available right now for pre-order, our you can get lucky and get the album early at participating Record Store Day stores on Black Friday (November 27th) on a limited edition white vinyl.
