Slipknot fans have likely been wondering not only when the band will have new material, but who the band has chosen as their new drummer after the departure of Joey Jordison. On WolverineKills.com, a rumor was posted claiming that Jay Weinberg, formerly of Against Me! and Madball. Weinberg is the son of Max Weinberg from Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, and has even filled in for his father on tour. There’s not much basis for the rumor other than the fact that Weinberg doesn’t appear to be involved with any other projects right now, with the most recent thing we’d seen was when he was touring with Kvelertak last year. Interestingly, according to this interview he did with Metal Insider a few years back, Weinberg is a big fan of Slipknot:

When I was nine, my dad brought me to Ozzfest to see Slipknot and Slayer, because Slipknot had been on Conan’s show promoting the self-titled record, and he was like “Oh, you’ll love these guys! They’re crazy! They yell and wear masks.” So I went and I was completely sold, and further down the line I got from the bands that were enormously popular too, you know Slipknot, System Of A Down, the really accessible bands, and then that led me to finding bands like Mastodon, which led to Neurosis, Baroness, Kylesa and those kinds of bands, and obviously the hardcore scene in New York.

This, of course, proves nothing and the rumor could very well turn out to be a dud. However, WolverineKills.com has been right about rumors in the past, including the lineup for Mayhem Fest, so who knows?
