What Important Announcement Is System Of A Down Making On Monday?

Rumors and Gossip

While they’ve played European festivals since reuniting in late 2010, System of a Down hasn’t done a full-blown American tour since 2006. Might that be about to change? We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but an announcement on the band’s Twitter account bears the cryptic message “Important announcement coming Monday. Stay tuned…” The tweet is accompanied by a picture of bassist Shavo Odadjian holding a deftones all access pass. Are the two related? Will he be playing bass for the deftones? Will the band be playing a benefit for deftones bassist Chi Cheng’s medical expenses?

If we were to hazard a guess, we’d think that there may be some more American shows in the future. System are playing the Heavy MTL festival in Montreal on August 11 and the Heavy T.O. Festival on August 12. It’s not out of the realm of impossibility that they might want to head south of the border and play some shows on American soil while they’re in the area. Then again, with frontman Serj Tankian releasing his third solo album a month earlier, we could see why he might want to concentrate on touring for that instead. Regardless, looks like we’re going to actually have to wait until Monday to clear things up.
