Since Cliff Burton’s untimely passing in 1986, the original Metallica bassist’s legend has only grown. Given that his signature moment is Kill ‘Em All‘s bass solo “Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth),” there hasn’t been much else of Burton playing solo – until now. This is Cliff Burton’s isolated bass track taken from Master of Puppets‘ instrumental “Orion.” While it was uploaded to YouTube three years ago, it hasn’t widely made the rounds until this week. Given the upload date, it’s likely that this was taken from Guitar Hero: Metallica, which was also released that year. Either way, it’s great to hear – especially if you’re a Rolling Stone reader.
