‘That Metal Show’ Interviews Axl Rose, Gets Him To Reveal That Duff McKagan’s Loaded Will Open Future Guns N’ Roses Shows

Posted by on October 31, 2011

That Metal Show hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson were on hand at Guns N’ Roses’ show in Miami this past Saturday (October 29) to film some stuff for the show. In addition, though, the three had the opportunity to do something rare: interview Axl Rose himself on camera. While the hosts and crew reportedly had to wait until the wee hours of the morning (according to Trunk via Twitter, they had been at the arena since 3pm the previous day and Axl didn’t show up for the interview until around 7am), the wait seems to have paid off.

What resulted was apparently an hour long interview with the reclusive singer and GN’R guitarist DJ Ashba. And during the interview, Axl reportedly let it slip that Duff McKagan’s band, Loaded, would be opening for GN’R in the future. Trunk (who had previously interviewed Axl on his radio shows five years ago), tweeted the following about what they discussed in the interview:

“We did ask Axl about R&R Hall, new music, his lateness, this lineup, playing with Duff (said Loaded will open shows) and more.”

So there are many reasons why Axl’s interview with That Metal Show is of interest to us:

1) Making the hosts and crew wait so long proves that concerts aren’t the only thing Axl shows up late to.

2) Not only is this the first TV interview he’s done in a long time, but this is the first we’ve heard of Axl doing an interview with one of the new GN’R members (something we’ve said he should be doing more often).

3) Duff McKagan’s Loaded will be opening for the new GN’R soon? On the one hand, this isn’t too surprising since Duff has been on good terms with Axl following his appearance on stage with the new lineup in the UK. However, Duff is still a member (or so we’d imagine) of Velvet Revolver, along with fellow former GN’R member Slash. And as you may recall, Axl doesn’t like Slash. Could Duff possibly help mend fences between Axl and Slash? One thing is for certain, though, if Duff does indeed open for GN’R, you can bet he’ll join Axl onstage again.

At the moment, it is not clear as to how the the interview with Axl and DJ Ashba will be formatted. However, Trunk did claim in multiple tweets that the interview will air on November 11 on VH1 Classic. And just in case you don’t believe that Axl actually came out of his shell for an interview, you can check out a picture of the hosts with the singer and guitarist taken by a crew member up top, while Trunk has posted pictures of himself with Axl via Twitter as well.
