Weren’t thrilled about Steven Tyler being a judge on American Idol these past two years? Well then this will probably please you: the Aerosmith frontman has announced that he is officially departing from the FOX singing competition show so as to focus on music.

Tyler, who was a judge along with Jennifer Lopez and Randy Johnson for seasons 10 and 11, had the following to say about his exit:

“After some long… hard… thoughts… I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back — but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass — the ultimate in auditory takeover… On November 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music From Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars… Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it… Now it’s time to bring rock back. ERMAHGERD.”

Considering how much touring will likely go behind Aerosmith’s new album Music From Another Dimension, it makes sense that Tyler would no longer be able to commit to American Idol. However, whether you liked him on the show or not, there’s no denying that his time on American Idol proved to benefit the band (especially in sales). Still, we can think of at least one Aerosmith member who’s likely happy that Tyler is leaving the show. As of now, Tyler’s replacement on the show is unknown.

By the way, how weird is it that Tyler ends his statement with a meme? I guess it’s no less weird than that shirt he’s wearing up there.
