Top 5

Metal Insider’s Top 5 is a column where we count down the top five of…well basically anything.

In addition to sometimes wearing an adult diaper, Richard Christy wears many hats. He’s the drummer for Charred Walls of the Damned, whose second album, Cold Winds on Timeless Days will be coming out on October11 on Metal Blade. He’s also a producer on The Howard Stern Show, a position he won in a contest years ago. In addition to CWOTD, he’s also logged time behind the kit in Iced Earth and Death. And lastly, he’s a big time fan of Halloween, and all that comes with it. That includes pumpkin beer, and we figured that the drunks in our viewing audience (aka our viewing audience) might want to know what his favorite Halloween brews are. In addition, check out a new CWOTD song after the jump, and don’t forget to head to Metal Sucks to enter their contest in which you would win a bunch of Christy stuff, including an adult diaper of your very own!

5. Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

From Washington State, this company has a huge Pumpkin Beer fest every year which I’m itching to go to someday and they even tap a massive pumpkin full of beer for the fest!

4. Samuel Adams Pumpkin Ale

I had this one for the first time this year and I love it! I’ve been drinking Samuel Adams beer since the early 1990′s and I love pretty much everything they make. My wife and I did a Sam Adams brewery tour in Boston this year and it was one of the best days of my life!

3. Stegmaier Pumpkin Ale

A new one to me, from Pennsylvania, I had it for the first time this year and I love it! I hope they continue to make this one every year!

2. Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

A stronger ABV pumpkin ale than most, hence the term Imperial, I love this beer! It has the perfect balance of sweetness and spices without being overly sweet. This Pennsylvania beer rules!

1. Southern Tier Imperial Pumking Ale

My alltime favorite drink ever! I love this beer so much that I saved several bottles from last year (which was hard cause I kept wanting to drink it!) for my wedding this past July. This beer also has a high ABV so you can save it for a few years and it keeps getting better. This beer is like pumpkin pie in a bottle, hands down the most delicious drink I’ve ever tasted! My Halloween wouldn’t be complete without my beloved Southern Tier Pumking!!!!

Honorable Mention: Blue Point Pumpkin Ale

A great pumpkin beer from Long Island, NY. They had it on tap a block away from my apartment for a while this September and my wife and I were there almost every night!

This is awesome,I’m a huge fan of RC’s work and now he’s a fan of mine. I work for Southern Tier Brewing and agree that our Pumking is the best by far.

My husband got me the Blue Point over the weekend. It’s inconsistent. the first bottle was great. The rest tasted like dish soap. I guess maybe the smaller breweries are like that? I dunno. Dying to try Pumpking, now!
