It’s been almost a month since Adrenaline Mob, Mike Portnoy and Russell Allen’s hard rock super group, made their debut in New York City. Now, even though they still haven’t released any material besides video of their live cover of “Mob Rules,” the group has just landed a pretty big opening gig.

It was announced today that Adrenaline Mob will be opening for Godsmack on a handful of North American dates in August. This will mark Adrenaline Mob’s first multiple date tour and first shows outside of New York City. In regards to their opening gig, Mike Portnoy said the following:

“I’d like to personally thank Sully [Erna, Godsmack singer] and everyone in the Godsmack camp for offering the Mob these dates without our album even being out yet! It shows a tremendous amount of BALLS as well as faith in the music and live energy of Adrenaline Mob to do that and they will forever be held as seriously cool MF’s in my book for that! Good karma pays itself back elevenfold!”

Just in time for the dates, Adrenaline Mob will release a four-song EP in August, while the full-length debut won’t be out until the beginning of 2012. What songs will be on said EP, as well as an exact date of release, is unknown at this moment.

After getting the chance to see their debut show in New York City, this opening gig makes a lot of sense. The new material they played had more similarities to bands like Godsmack and Disturbed (who are both headlining Mayhem Fest right now) than it did to Portnoy and Allen’s previous/current bands. It’ll definitely open them to an audience who’ll probably enjoy their music and may also not be as familiar with Dream Theater or Symphony X.

Check out the Godsmack dates Adrenaline Mob will be appearing on below:

8/ 16 – Myrtle Beach, SC – House Of Blues
8/ 20 – Watertown, NY – Watertown Grandstands
8/ 21 – Hamilton, ON – Copps Colisseum
8/ 23 – Dubuque, IA – Five Flags Arena
8/ 24 – Bloomington, IL – US Cellular Colisseum
8/ 26 – Casper, WY – Casper Events Center
8/ 27 – Grand Junction, CO – Rock Jam
