We knew this moment would have to come – when Motley Crue and Poison announced they were touring together, Nikki Sixx would have some major explaining to do. It’s not like you can claim that you’ll never be “attached to that kind of fake bullshit” and then not expect a few people to ask “Wait, what?” when you announce a tour with said “fake bullshit.” And Sixx has started to make his rounds of explaining Crue’s decision in tour mates, first with Tommy Lee and The New York Doll’s David Johansen while on his syndicated radio show Sixx Sense With Nikki Sixx to first announce the tour (funny, they couldn’t find a member of Poison to join them?).

You can listen to what he had to say in the media player above, or read Sixx’s comments about  why they finally decided to tour with Poison below:

“One of the things Motley Crue said was that we would never tour with Poison because we were sort of punk / heavy metal / glam, we came out of the very, very early ’80s and took what we did very… it was very important to us. And then bands came after us and we wanted to kind of separate from them. And we had never planned on touring with any of the bands from that era. There was no animosity — it was just that we put a very clear line. But when the Dolls signed on, it made it seem like it was the right time to do this tour.”

So basically, the only reason why Crue is doing this tour is because of The New York Dolls? Also, and maybe we’re just reading into this a little too much, but doesn’t Sixx’s comment seem more like a polite jab at Poison than words of peace? I mean, you can argue about the quality of both bands all you want, but wouldn’t the members of Poison argue that what they did was “very important” to them as well? Sixx says there’s no animosity, and comparing these comments on Poison to his past ones, there may very well be not. But we’re not totally convinced that he’s not bitter about having to eat his own words. However, we can’t necessarily blame him for that.

But luckily for us, and unfortunately for Sixx and the Crue, this will certainly not be the last time they are asked to explain themselves and the tour. We’ll keep you posted when more develops and when the next member of either band adds more fuel to the Crue/Poison fire.
