Unsigned & Streamed

Why should major label bands be the only ones who get love? Unsigned & Streamed is a column where we stream a song from an unsigned band we at Metal Insider really dig.

This week, we’re excited to shine a light on Vancouver, Canada’s Ancients. This quartet was formed following the demise of party-rock band SpreadEagle two years ago with singer/guitarist Kenny Cook hoping to find a more creative outlet for music. Following a year of writing material, the band began to make a name for themselves on stage, having played with bands like 3 Inches Of Blood, Cancer Bats, Barn Burner and many others. Ancient’s crushing sound mixes the aggressive riffs of Slayer with the sonic vibe of Mastodon. So without further ado, take a listen to the song “Humanist,” off of Ancients’ self-titled EP, in the stream below.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Ancients are currently working on their debut full length album with Jesse Gander (Bison, 3 Inches of Blood), with big plans for the year to follow. You can download their self-titled EP for free via Bandcamp, while you can keep up to date on Ancients’ upcoming plans and shows via their website and Facebook.

If you’re in an unsigned band and would like to participate in Unsigned & Streamed, email a link to your band’s music and a brief bio to tips [at] metalinsider.com for consideration.
