Former Testament/ Death Guitarist Seeks Help As He Battles Brain Tumor Relapse

Updates

As you’ll recall, former Death/Testament guitarist and producer James Murphy had discovered back in early October his brain tumor, which had been showing great signs of improvement, had suddenly returned. Luckily, though, the tumor was non malignant and surgery was not needed. However, while the tumor can be treated pharmacologically, the medications have serious side effects and have left him unable to work. And though there are different medications available, they come at a cost of $1,000 a month. In order for treatment to be effective, Murphy needs a minimum of six months of medication.

Unable to work because of his current medication’s side effects, many in the metal community have come out to help pay for Murphy’s expenses. CKY/World Under Blood’s Deron Miller (who worked with Murphy on World Under Blood’s debut album, and helped raise money for his initial expenses) continued to help by auctioning the last eight pressings Roadrunner Japan had of Discarnate’s Dreams of the Carrion Kind (bidding is already closed). Murphy’s former band mates in Obituary have also been helping out by selling a special Cause Of Death t-shirt featuring the James Murphy Medical Fund logo (as seen above) during their current East Coast tour.

However, Murphy can still use all the help he can get in covering his medical expenses. Please head over to this PayPal account to donate and help Murphy continue to kick his tumor’s ass. In addition to his musical contributions, Murphy is a friend to many in the metal scene. Now it’s time the community pays him back.
