Jim Root sitting out Stone Sour tour to write Slipknot album

Posted by on December 3, 2013

Jim_RootIt now looks more probably than ever that there could well be a new Slipknot album in 2014. Stone Sour has announced a headlining tour that will start in January and run through February 15th. The tour, which also features Pop Evil and Stolen Babies, will be taking place without guitarist Jim Root. The reason? He’s working on the next Slipknot album. From the band’s Facebook page:

With an impending Slipknot album on the horizon, Jim will not be touring with Stone Sour this winter. Everyone involved is okay with the decision and our mutual friend Christian Martucci will be filling in on guitar. It was a difficult decision, but as the fans have wanted another Stone Sour tour and Jim had responsibilities to the writing process with Slipknot, we feel this is the best decision where everyone wins.

In short, with Corey Taylor out on the road with Stone Sour, when the band gets back from the road in mid-February, he might have some music to lay vocals down over. There’s no set timetable on when they’ll be recording, but if they’re working on music in the early part of the year, there’s no reason they won’t potentially have an album out in the late Summer or Fall of 2014. The band’s last album was 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, and bassist Paul Gray died of an accidental overdose in 2010. Original member and founding guitarist Donnie Steele has been filling in on bass for Slipknot on the road, but there’s no work on whether he’ll be recording or writing with the band, or if he’ll become a full time member. Scroll down for Stone Sour’s tour dates.
