Updates

Last week, rumors that Mastodon would be embarking on a U.S. tour with Opeth and Ghost have started to leak. While official confirmation has yet to be given, we now know that the tour is definitely happening thanks to bassist Troy Sanders.

In a recent interview with Belgian national radio station Studio Brussel last Thursday (January 19), Sanders (along with guitarist Bill Kelliher) confirmed the drool worthy tour, saying the following:

“We go to Australia take part in the Soundwave Festival, which is going to be lovely… Take a short break. Do a North American tour with Opeth and Ghost. And then take another break and come back over here for the European festival season.”

Believe us when we say that we’ve been praying that last week’s rumors were true. And lo and behold, they are!  As we’ve said before, this is one hell of a strong touring package. Mastodon and Opeth seem like a perfect fit together, both unique enough to differentiate themselves on stage while still complimenting to each other’s sound. And on top of that, Ghost (who we just saw live in NYC last week) is the perfect up and coming band to open on such a package. In fact, we’d heard about this off the record at the Ghost show last week.

At this point, it’s only a matter of time till they officially announce tour dates, but we’re hearing it’ll be in late Spring/early Summer. In case you’d like to hear more from Sanders and Kelliher’s interview with Studio Brussel , you can check out audio snippets and video of it over at the station’s website.
