Award Show Battles, Updates

Last month, the nominees and initial performers for the 4th annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards were announced. And now more performances, honorees and special additions have been confirmed for this year’s award show.

First up, it’s been revealed that Rush will receive the “Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award.” Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D will present the award to everyone’s favorite Canadian prog rock trio, who are reportedly releasing their new album Clockwork Angels sometime in May. “We are honored and delighted to receive this honor—especially because it will be presented by Jack and Kyle. Our ‘lifetimes’ are not over yet, and we dearly hope our ‘achievements’ are not either, so I suppose you could say that to us this is the ‘So Far, So Good’ award,” drummer Neil Peart said of the honor.

Next up, Korn (who were behind Revolver’s favorite album of 2011) and Trivium have been added to the award show’s performance lineup. The two bands join Marilyn Manson, Slash, Evanescence, Sixx: A.M., and the Black Veil Brides on this year’s bill. Plus, virtuoso shredder Yngwie Malmsteen will be opening the festivities by performing “The Star Spangled Banner,” while Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider will join the Black Veil Brides onstage for a rendition of “I Wanna Rock.”

However, what’s going to take place right before the show might interest Pantera fans the most. Right before the Revolver Golden Gods air on Xbox LIVE and Facebook, a video for the previously unreleased song “Piss” will be shown. As you may already know, the track will appear on the 20th anniversary reissue of Vulgar Display Of Power, which comes out on May 15. This technically marks Pantera’s first official video in 12 years, and might be the first time we’ll get to hear “Piss” in its entirety (unless it gets streamed beforehand).

This year’s Revolver Golden Gods Award Show will take place at LA’s Club Nokia on April 11, and will be streamed live in its entirety on Xbox LIVE, as well via Xbox and Revolver Magazine’s Facebook pages. Haven’t voted yet? Well, check out who we think will win big this year, and then cast your vote at the Revolver Golden Gods’ website.
