Back in April, the metal community was shocked and saddened to learn that a major chunk of Roadrunner Records’ European staff was getting laid off. And this past Friday (June 15), the UK offices were reportedly shut down for good. But a few days before that (June 11 to be exact), the defunct UK branch of Roadrunner was honored at Metal Hammer’s Golden God Awards with the “Inspiration Award.” Most of the exiting staff members themselves, including former senior vice president of A&R Monte Conner, were on hand to accept the award.

Fan filmed video of the UK branch’s introduction acceptance speech can be seen above. While it doesn’t change the fact that die hard and passionate metal fans have lost their jobs, it’s still great to see the UK branch receive an honor they rightfully deserve.
